There are various forms of electrical wire. Each different kind of electrical wire is designed for another job. The wires have different types of insulation and protection; this is exactly what makes every one ideal for another application. There’s THHN and TFFN wires which can be virtually identical. There are the NM-B and Romex wires and also the MC Conduit cable. Many of these wires are great for electrical work indoors and a few ones may also be used outside, along with conduit.

    TFFN and THHN

These two wire names are abbreviations. TFFN means thermoplastic insulation, flexible, fixture, and nylon coating. Even though the THHN represents thermoplastic insulation, heat resistant, high heat resistant, and nylon coating. Then add in that some of the THHN wires come even during a water, gas and oil resistant form, and you get THWN wire. They’re all single conductor copper wires which you can use both indoors, outdoors as well as in conduit.

    NM-B and Romex

Romex could be the Southwire model of an NM-B cable. The NM represents non-metallic. This means that instead of the wire being incased inside a metal jacket. The NM-B cable includes a PVC jacket round the multiple conductors it holds. This version of electrical wire are only able to provide indoors. The wire won’t have enough protection on it to be used outside. The most prevalent use because of this kind of wire is within insulated homes and buildings, running power from electrical boxes to outlets, lights and appliances.

    MC Conduit Cable

These kinds of electrical cable is very different from the NM-B cable. This is because the MC Conduit cable is metal clad. This type of electrical cable comes with a aluminum interlocked armor jacket rather than typical PVC. The aluminum jacket throughout the wires conductors is meant to work as a conduit there will not a need for one when it’s being installed. This design can also be designed to increase mobile phone process, in turn saving electricians and contractors both time and money.

These electrical wires can be used indoors as building wire. Most can also be used outdoors in conduit at the same time. Now even though these wires are somewhat similar, they are still different, to ensure the variation in applications. Be sure to look at all of your options to find the proper wire for your next job or project!
